Schools

The Shorewood Police Department has a deep commitment to the public and private schools that serve our community.  School safety is a top priority of this police department and we use education and officer presence to put teachers in the best position to educate in a safe environment.

From an active threat to our schools' perspective, our officers regularly train in the county-wide active threat response protocol, which is applicable in schools as well as in any other setting in Shorewood where an active threat exists. This response protocol, which promotes a unified response with the Troy Fire Department, aims to swiftly eliminate the threat and efficiently bring aid to injured persons. On the preparedness-education for student and staff end, our officers work hand-in-hand with students and staff to bring consistent active threat response training to the schools.  This training model known as ALICE, helps students and teachers protect themselves from harm during those critical first few minutes before the police arrive.  For more information on ALICE, follow the link:

Finally, our officers recognize there’s more to a school & police relationship than safety.  The trust in the police by students in critical to maintaining a strong and safe community.  Our officers find time, often daily, to interact with the students in the hallways and on the playground.  Everyone involved finds these interactions to be very refreshing and beneficial.
