Nighttime Driving Restrictions for Drivers Ages 16-17

Drivers who are 16-17 years of age cannot drive a vehicle from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 p.m.-6 a.m. Friday through Saturday.

Passengers for Drivers Under 18

For the first 12 months of driving, or until the driver turns 18, whichever occurs first, the number of passengers is limited to one person under age 20, unless the passenger(s) is a sibling, step-sibling, child, or stepchild of the driver. After this period, the number of passengers is limited to one in the front seat and the number of safety belts in the back seat.

Curfew

The hours for curfew for the Village of Shorewood are as follows:

  1. Notwithstanding anything contained to the contrary in existing Village ordinances the following shall apply with respect to curfew:
  2. A.   Persons Age Sixteen and Seventeen: It is unlawful for a person more than fifteen (15) years of age but less than eighteen (18) years of age to be present at or upon any public assembly, building, place, street or highway at the following times, unless accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian, unless engaged in a business or occupation which the laws of this State authorize a person less than eighteen (18) years of age to perform:
    1. Between 12:01 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. Saturday.
    2. Between 12:01 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. Sunday.
    3. Between 11:00 P.M. on Sunday to Thursday, inclusive, and 6:00 A.M. on the following day.
  3. B.   Persons Age Fifteen and Younger: It is unlawful for a person less than sixteen (16) years of age to be present at or upon any public assembly, building, place, street or highway at the following times unless accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian unless engaged in a business or occupation which the laws of this State authorize a person less than sixteen (16) years of age to perform or unless in attendance at, or while traveling directly home from, a school, church or a not-for-profit community organization sponsored activity:
  4. 1.   Between 10:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M. (on the following day), seven (7) days a week.
  5. C.   Parental Responsibility: It is unlawful for any parent, legal guardian or other person to knowingly permit a person in his custody or control to violate this Section.
  6. D.   Penalty: Any person convicted of violating any provision of this Section shall be fined not less than fifty dollars ($50.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) for each offense. (Ord. 93-702, 7-27-93)
