Body Worn Cameras

The State of Illinois recently mandated that all police departments must equip their officers with body worn cameras in the near future. The Shorewood Police Department rolled out its body worn camera program in February 2023, almost two years before the mandated deadline. Officers have been trained and equipped with these cameras to provide greater transparency and accountability. The body worn cameras will help build trust, clear up misunderstandings, and give an objective recount of an officer’s interaction with a member of the community.
