Shorewood residents have access to the following services provided by, or recommended by, the Shorewood Police Department: 

Car Seat Installs
The Shorewood Police Department has trained certified technicians who are available to assist and educate citizens regarding the proper installation and maintenance of their child safety seats. Child safety seat installations are conducted on a walk-in basis.  Citizens can call ahead and make an appointment (emergencies and other circumstances permitting) and ensure an installation technician is on duty at the time they wish to schedule an installation. 

The Shorewood Police Department will ONLY install car seats for Shorewood Residents. We will no longer install car seats for non-Shorewood Residents. The Shorewood residents ONLY restrictions are not in effect for special car seat events performed in conjunction with our community partners.  Additionally, between Memorial Day and Labor Day every year, car seat installation will ONLY take place seven days a week from 0700-1100 and 1900-2300 hours.  Car seat technicians will not be asked to perform car seat installs during the hottest time of the day in the summer months. 

Residents of the Village of Shorewood are not charged for this service. 

Ride Along Program

The Shorewood Police Department’s Ride-Along Program offers residents and non-residents the opportunity to experience the day of an officer from the passenger seat of their squad car. This program allows one to see and experience the level of service our officers provide on a daily basis. The opportunity is also valuable for persons interested in a law enforcement career with the Shorewood Police Department or elsewhere.

Persons 18 years of age or older interested in a ride-along, can complete a Ride-Along Request Form at the Police Department at any time.

FingerprintingFingerprint services are performed on a walk-in basis when an officer is available.  Residents and businesses of the Village of Shorewood are not charged for this service.  We will no longer provide this service for non-Shorewood Residents.

Station ToursThe Shorewood Police Department provides station tours for organizations as time and manpower allow. To schedule a tour for your organization, contact Sergeant Nicholas Forster at (815) 725-1460 or nforster@shorewoodil.gov.

Safe Exchange ZoneThe Shorewood Police Department is a Safe Exchange Zone for online or other purchases. The parking lot and lobby of the Police Department are video-monitored to provide security when completing these transactions.

Safe Passage ProgramTo address the negative impacts of the opioid crisis, drug-related crime, and rising rates of overdose deaths, law enforcement leaders have implemented new out-of-the-box approaches to address this epidemic. To help meet the growing need for treatment for opioid use disorder and other substance abuse disorders, many proactive police departments in Illinois and other states have implemented arrest-diversion programs sometimes referred to as “Safe Passage” programs. Safe Passage policies allow individuals to enter police stations to ask for help accessing addiction treatment services without fear of arrest or prosecution. Safe Passage is a civilian self-referral program. All assessments and services are provided by contracted Coordinated Care Providers. The Shorewood Police Department is a participating agency in this program. If you have questions or need assistance, call (815) 725-1460

Safe HavenIllinois' Safe Haven law gives parents a safe way to give up a newborn baby for adoption if they feel like they cannot handle the responsibility. You can leave your newborn baby with workers at a safe place with no questions asked if: The baby has not been hurt; and. The baby is less than 30 days old.

The Shorewood Police Department is a Safe Haven drop-off point.

Animal Control
All animal control issues in the Village of Shorewood are handled by Will County Animal Control. To contact them call (815) 462-5633.

Drug Disposal
The Shorewood Police Department has an Unused Medication Disposal Program that is designed to significantly reduce the prescription drugs in your home that are no longer needed or are outdated.  We want to allow you to remove these substances from the home legally and safely and provide a means to dispose of your medications. 

Residents may place unwanted, unneeded, or expired medication in the secured disposal box located inside the front entrance of the Shorewood Police Department located at 903 W. Jefferson Street. 

ACCEPTABLE MEDICATIONS

  • Pills, salves, and liquid medicines in original containers
  • Pills, salves, inhalants, and liquid medicines that are not in their original containers must be packaged in non-leaking containers.  Labels are not required. 

UNACCEPTABLE MEDICATIONS

  • Sharp Needles
  • IV bags
  • Thermometers
  • Medications from pharmacies, nursing homes, clinics, doctor’s offices, or any other business that distributes medication

Alarm MonitoringThe Western Will County Communications Center (WESCOM) offers options for direct alarm monitoring of burglar and fire alarms. More information is available at:

Angel SenseAngel Sense is a GPS tracking system utilized by law enforcement agencies and guardians for high-risk individuals with certain diagnosed medical conditions, with known elopement tendencies, to significantly reduce search efforts. The Shorewood Police Department will help facilitate signing up and implementing the use of an Angel Sense tracking device on request.
