Law Enforcement Torch Run/Special Olympics

Since the mid-1990s, the Shorewood Police Department has been a strong supporter of the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The 42-year-old partnership between law enforcement and Special Olympics known as the “Torch Run” has provided thousands of young persons with intellectual disabilities opportunity and satisfaction through athletic competition they would have otherwise gone without.

The Shorewood Police Department raises money for our events by having local businesses sponsor us. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of Shorewood Coppers or purchasing Torch Run merchandise, please contact Officer Schloesser or Records Supervisor Hoppenrath at 815-725-1460.

There are many fundraising activities throughout the year that we participate in.  The Annual Torch Run, the Polar Plunge, the Plane Pull, and Cop on A Rooftop at the local Dunkin locations.  Thank you to all of our supporters, volunteers, family, and friends. In 2022 we raised $12,436.00 for this amazing organization. Our friend and Gold Medal Special Olympian Rikki Michelle Kirsch loves to stop by and say hi at many of our fundraising events.  Way to go Rikki, keep earning those medals!

"Freezin' for a Reason!"

SPD took the plunge into the freezing water to support Special Olympics Illinois at the Braidwood location and had a blast doing it!

Members of the Shorewood Police Department brought their muscles to the Law Enforcement Torch Run Lewis Plane Pull Presented by United at Lewis University Airport. We may not have come in first place but we think pulling the plane in 6.094 seconds is still pretty good!

The Shorewood Police Department’s annual Cop on Top at our two Dunkin Donuts locations every year is by far our biggest fundraising event of the year.  We sell t-shirts, hats, Travel mugs, and raffle tickets.  All money raised at all of our events goes directly to Special Olympics.
